Scientific/Academic/ Cases

Dr. Scotty Bolding, a thinker amongst us and a living human margarita machine, is developing a site where questions can be asked and opinions shared regarding difficult, challenging, and/or interesting cases.

Your interest, input, and contributions are invited.

A beneficial set of events may be occurring:
• Thornton is bored and creates a blog,
• Bolding mentions a way to create academic/scientific discussions through a blog,
• Andrews sends out an email asking for opinions, and
• Smith responds with advice.

Below are Scotty’s thoughts on how we could make a better system for our association.

Do any of you see any interest in this? If so, Scotty can lead us through the development of such a site.

It might be possible to portal, gateway, provide the access to such a site through the existing blog. If that’s the case, we’d have multiple areas of interests combined such as trips, meetings, departmental updates, case studies, and requests for help on special cases.

Scotty’s note is below…

I am suggesting is that I offer through the blog a link that would take each member to his or her own study club module. When you clicked on the BOMSAA Study Club button, you would be ask to log in with secure name and password and it would take each doc directly to their secure user site. Each of us would be users of the site and the list of all of us would be there. If you post a case, you select the doctors you want to see it and or respond to it and it automatically sends them a HIPPA compliant email that directs them to the case. Also through the blog you could have a case of the month, or we could let the scientifically minded Colin Bell direct this or it may be the responsibility of the new members each year. Each of us would review answer a few questions and comments and then get validated CE for the month.

This is a very robust heavy duty study club system. Specialists are using it to work with their referrals primarily as a way to communicate and be organized. I am thinking we could use it for our group with a little different twist.

First of all Bill, we have to eliminate that ugly photograph. Where in the world did you get that. What I forsee is for us to create a BOMSSA study club logo. The members would click on the logo and it would direct us to the USHealthrecord study club login. You would log in to your own personal settings and be able to have complete functioning rights as a study club member in the study club. All of your personal information and CE log is confidential and cannot be seen by others. You control who sees any cases posted to the site. You would also have complete functioning rights to the USHealthrecord.com viewing member functionality. THis is the way that I have been sharing some case information with Dr Triplett. If you are an OMSLINKS user, then you would also have complete access to a full functioning OMS EMR as well.

You would not have to log in throug the blog, but I think it would be a nice feature for our blog.

I would love your feedback and questions.
